Gerard Beirne has been teaching creative writing for 30 years. He holds an MFA in Creative Writing (EWU, USA) and has recently returned from Canada where he taught in the English/Creative Writing Department at the University of New Brunswick.  Apart from his ongoing private mentorship, he has been a mentor with the Manitoba Writers’ Guild and developed a mentorship program for the New Brunswick Writers’ Federation.

He is a Fiction Editor for The Fiddlehead (Canada’s oldest literary magazine), was a Senior Editor for Numero Cinq – International Literary and Arts magazine, and is founder and editor of The Irish Literary Times.

A past winner of the Hennessy New Irish Writer of the Year award he has published 3 novels, 2 collections of poetry, and a collection of short stories. He has been shortlisted for The Kerry Group Irish Fiction Award, The Danuta Gleed Literary Award 2015 (the best first book of stories published in Canada), and in 2016 he was shortlisted for the Bord Gais Energy Irish Book Awards – Short Story of the Year Award.
